Ambergris Cay Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies
Ambergris Cay — a private island in the Turks and Caicos Islands, is an island like nowhere else! Located 48 miles from Providenciales (Provo).
I had heard about Ambergris Cay for years, but when I visited for the first time, I realized immediately my life had changed. I knew Ambergris would become a part of my life, and sure enough a month later I was a property owner. Many places in the world can bring forth a good feeling or an emotion, but for me, Ambergris evokes an exhilaration unlike any other place I have been.
Ambergris is not for everyone. There is no nightlife other than a great restaurant in a gorgeous setting. There are no hotels and no condos and there never will be. There is privacy and security without gates and locks, and a friendly staff that any five-star resort would be proud to have. Ambergris has spectacular beaches, rolling hills with 100 foot elevation, jagged limestone cliffs, grassy plains, rare and beautiful tropical flora and fauna interspersed with strictly controlled West Indies architecture, with the sound of the sea almost ever-present.
On Ambergris, there is fantastic bone fishing, deep sea fishing, shallow reef fishing, tennis courts, kayaking, Hobie Cats, nature tours, plantation ruins, a marina, kids activities, and a 5,700 paved runway with customs and immigration that can accommodate private jets — even a G-5. If, however, you are coming from Providenciales, you can book the Ambergris plane to come and go anytime you wish — $75 per person each way for the 17 minute flight.
Unfortunately, as a non-member, you may not stay on Ambergris a full week, but you are welcome to come over for a couple of days and nights and see what it is all about, subject to availability. You may want to spend 5 days in a condo on Provo plus two days on Ambergris, or perhaps a week in a villa or condo on Provo plus two days on Ambergris.
This house has 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, a small pool, and rents for $1,700 a night from June 1 to October 31, and for $2,000 a night from November 1 to May 31. Additionally, there is a 11% Turks and Caicos Islands Government tax added to the rate. There are no cars, just golf carts and they are available in various sizes for $20 - $35 a day.
I have been a homeowner on Providenciales (Provo) since the mid 70's and experienced "the good old days" there. I feel again fortunate to experience the same on Ambergris, and you are welcome to do the same.
